FEATURE EVENTS @ RICHMOND

Richmond Race Club plays host to several feature race events throughout the year, both with long and illustrious honour rolls. The major events on the racing calendar at Richmond are the G2 Richmond Derby and G2 Richmond Oaks, both of which are sponsored by our major sponsor, Ladbrokes. The Derby and Oaks are the feature events on the racing calendar at Richmond, with heats run at the end of February, and the final run in early March, with prize money stakes in excess of $120,000.

Other Feature Events held throughout the year at Richmond include the Ladbrokes Cannonball, Phil Davis Memorial, Frank Kennedy Memorial, John McCombe Memorial, and the GRNSW Richmond Straight Cup.

THE RICHMOND OAKS

Just like the Derby, the Richmond Oaks was first run in 1957 up the straight 320 yards and it then changed to a grass circle over 537 metres in 1974, before also switching to 535 metres when the loam track was constructed in 1999.
 
Among some of the past winners of the Oaks are: Zoom Top (1968), Gwendalyn Bale (1982), Winifred Bale (1983), Brave Gambler (1985), Amy’s Doll (1992), Blue Sky Riot (2018) and Dam Slippery (2019).
 
THE RICHMOND DERBY
The Derby was first run up the straight over 320 yards in 1957 it then changed to a grass circle over 537 metres in 1974. When the track became loam in 1999, the Derby commenced racing over 535 metres.
 
Among the winners over the years are: Peter Glider (1982), a dead heat between Bindall’s Hope and Creamy Koko (1984), Rapid Supreme (1985), Stately Bird (2000), Cyrus The Virus (2003), and Hone In (2018).
